Specific Details of Massage Session

Once you are checked in for your appointment, I will take you back to the treatment room where we will sit for a few minutes and discuss your health history and what you are seeking massage for. I may do an assessment on your walking patterns, posture and range of motion. We will discuss goals for massage and I will answer any questions you may have.

Then I will leave the room. You will get undressed to your level of comfort. For many people this means getting completely undressed, for others it means they will leave on their underwear. Please do whatever is most comfortable for you. Where gluteal work is warranted, I never work directly on the skin, rather I work through the sheet doing mostly compressions.

Once you are undressed, you will get on the table UNDER the sheets and blanket. I will let you know before hand if you’ll be starting face up or face down. (Throughout the entirety of the massage, I will only undrape the area I am working on, making sure to keep the rest of you covered at all times.)

I will allow several minutes for you to get on the table. Then I will knock on the door to see if you are ready for me to come in. Once you give the OK, I will enter the room and we will begin the massage session. I will be using lotion on your skin, if you have any allergies to any ingredient that could potentially be in the lotion, please make sure to mention that on your Health Intake form.

Many people wonder if they are supposed to talk during the session or be quiet– this is totally up to you. I may ask some general questions about your condition, the pressure and adjustments to the table positioning but otherwise, communication is up to you. I have many people that talk during massages and I also have people that fall asleep and snore. I have some people that talk one session and are quiet the next. These are your sessions and I will leave it up to yo to decide how you wish to proceed.

If I am incorporating Active Release Techniques (ART) into your session, this will require your participation. I will be communicating to you the stretch that you will perform, while also checking in with you to see what you are feeling. Communication is key during this technique.

If at any point during the massage the pressure is too much or not enough, please let me know. I am happy to adjust my pressure as many times as needed.

At the end of the massage, I will let you know that I am done with the session. I will leave the room and allow you to get dressed. Once dressed, you will come out to the waiting area where I will have some water for you and we can discuss any self-care recommendations. You should always drink a lot of water after a massage to flush out toxins that may have been released during the massage.

After your massage session, it is possible that you may feel sore. This is normal and shouldn’t last more than two to three days. The more water you drink, the faster this soreness should fade.

If you haven’t done so already, you will schedule your next appointment(s) and payment can be made at this time, if applicable. This can also be done prior to your massage, whichever is most convenient.

Your comfort and safety are my number one priority. If there is anything I can do to make you feel more comfortable please let me know. I am happy to make any adjustments.
