Personal Training

Located inside of Miller Medical Massage is Tucson Certified Personal Trainer, Aaron Gilbert, CPT, the owner and operator of Groundwork Movement, a Personal Training Studio at the intersection of Ina Rd and Oracle Rd in Tucson, Arizona.
If you are in Tucson, Oro Valley, Casas Adobes, Marana, Catalina Foothills– or even Saddlebrook and you are looking for a Personal Trainer in Tucson, Aaron Gilbert, CPT is hands-down one of the best Personal Trainers in the country. To truly be the best, it takes a thorough understanding of all of the current Personal Training and Physical Therapy models, as well as a very non-dogmatic, objective and unbiased approach to compare and contrast these models with a critically thinking mind.
This allows the learner to understand the shortcomings of each model– as well as their strengths. Then after years of implementing various modalities in real-life, with real clients and getting immediate feedback and data. This allows the trainer to instantly modify the workout or plan so that you are quickly back on track (this is one of the main benefits to working with a Personal Trainer in-person). It takes someone who has made this work their entire life, their passion, their obsession in order to get the best Certified Personal Trainer in Tucson— and possibly one of the best rehab professionals in the country.

What Makes Aaron Different?
So many things. If you haven’t met Aaron in person, you should. His passion and ever expanding knowledge of the human body is fascinating. He is extremely kind, empathetic, non-judgmental and your dog will love him!
Aaron is NOT your typical trainer. Many people think that he is a Physical Therapist. He is not a Physical Therapist, however, he does have Physical Therapists that come to see him for training. Aaron’s work acts as the Bridge Between Physical Therapy/Rehabilitation and Performance. (Basically what I am saying is that Aaron is not your typical Personal Trainer. Aaron is so much more than that. He really is in a niche area of his own.
While many (maybe most) Personal Trainers in Tucson tend to focus on weight loss or muscle gain, these are usually bi-products of working with Aaron. When you start with the Groundwork– the movements that are needed, and often ignored, to safely and healthily get your body where you want it to be, you will gain muscle and you will likely lose weight. Aaron wants to help you get your body to function like the resilient, strong, body it was made to be– from the ground up.
In other words, you wouldn’t build a home on a cracked or damaged foundation. You would make sure that the foundation is the best possible foundation you can make that will support the rest of the home for decades to come.
Full Body Assessment
Aaron focuses first on finding out exactly where you/your body are currently at. Meaning, he does a full body assessment. Everyone’s body and ability to move through space is very different and he would NEVER treat you with a cookie cutter approach (when you are searching for a Tucson Personal Trainer, you want to make sure that there are zero cookie cutters involved. One way to know: clamshells!).
Goals
Then he talks to you to find out what your REAL goals are, what matters to you, why you are here, what is it all for? Once you’ve got that established, he starts by laying the Groundwork. Making sure your body is prepared to do standard, human movements, before he loads you up with heavier weight. This prevents injury, gets results faster, and remains a pleasant experience. It’s still tough work, you will shake, you will feel things you’ve never felt before. You will learn a different way to breathe, you will get educated on the process, and you will be an active participant in your training program.
Preventing Injury and time/money lost
If you’ve ever been injured from a workout or some other strenuous activity, you know what a huge setback this can become. Aaron’s goal, his guising principals, are to start with the Groundwork, make sure you can do a true lunge or squat properly before he adds on the heavy weight. Preventing injury is so important. It saves everyone time (and money) and gets you to your goals faster, despite how it might sound.
Aaron works with people who have old or chronic injuries (don’t we all?) and he has acquired awesome tools and equipment that allow for him to modify the way a workout is performed, so as not to exacerbate or re-injure the client. It makes things much more comfortable for the client, which means they are going to get better, faster results.
Progressing from the Groundwork -- adding on to that strong foundation
Then, as you progress, Aaron will begin to load the weight with specific intention and a thorough understanding of exactly what each exercise’s function is meant to do. The why behind the exercise, not just as filler (again, no cookie cutters over here).
The People Aaron Works With
Aaron’s Tucson studio is a medium-sized personal training space that includes all of the best equipment that he has found helps get results with his clients. He works with all walks of life, including those approaching retirement or are sailing through it with with ease, athletes, college students, parents, and people who want to move well and age without functional limitations. The commonalities between all of his clients is that they are all COMMITTED, MOTIVATED and they all RESPECT Aaron as a human being and an integral member of their healthcare team.
Aaron is the person that many patients see after they’ve completed physical therapy and they need additional help with mobility and strength. Aaron has several Physical Therapists and doctors that see him for care. His work bridges the gap between rehab and performance.
